Default New To 4wd and X10

Ok , so I have got myself an X10. I have raced buggies on and off for a number of years, but never 4wd.

Can anybody give me an idiots guide to setting up the car please ?

I have seen some useful information on the pred web site, but could do with as much help as possible.

I will be racing in the Mid East regionals, which include bumpy grass and astroturf tracks.

Thanks.

Hi mate,

This would be a good starting set-up to try on grass tracks and alike i run this set-up at Jarrow North East regional which was all grass with wooden jumps and it seemed very good. Also i beleive its one of Northys set-ups too. I would also get a spring tuning set and some anti roll bars. There is a "XRS Race Spares Pack" on the Team Xtreme site which might be worth looking at too.

http://www.teamxtreme.co.uk/store/in...products_id=32

The setup...

Batley Outdoor (Grass)

Front:

Springs: 6t
Pistons: Hard + Valve
Oil: 35wt
Toe: In 1 Degree
Camber: 2 Degrees
Ground clearance: 16mm
Anti Roll Bar: None

Rear:

Springs: 5.5t/Gold
Pistons: Two hole, no groove
Oil weights: 50wt
Toe-in per side: 3 Degrees
Camber per side: 2 Degrees
Ground clearance: 22mm - or a little more if it cuts up.
Anti-roll bar: None
Rear lower upright: Upper Hole
Damper pickup point: Middle

I would also recomend some of the new X11 wheels too which dont crack, plus they look ace .

Garry

Yes i saw his car going round at the jarrow regioanal and it seemed to be going pretty good, can't say the same for his driving though. Just kidding, but yeah i would definatley try out this setup, as will i, also the X11 wheels are probably a good buy also as the normal ones tend to crack.

That is a bumber, can't really do much about it either. But then again i can't say i had the best of days, first time racing it and i broke a front caster block thingy as-well as an outdrive, the end of a driveshaft and my wheel came off during a race one time i couldn't find the wheel nut after so i had to improvise. But atleast it was good fun. Can't ask for much more than that.

Hi there.
You were asking for guides on how toset your car up, well here they are! The first one is a guide to the whole build and setup I think and the second is a setup guide by the original designer, Richard Weatherly. Hope you find them useful. If you need any help or setup advise, there are quite a few setups in the "setup" section of the site or just ask

enjoy your new car!

First.. [Build and setup tips]
Second.. [Setup guide by Richard Weatherly]

And a link to the setup section, on oOple.

I would also recommend having a look around the-pred.co.uk in the forum. Lots of setups and help there.

cheers

The blue X-Brace, rocker and gearbox top upgrade is definatly worth buying. The new Lunsford Turnbuckles for the upper arms are very good too. Also keep an eye out on the Xtreme site for some new items in a short couple of weeks .

Some cool stuff on the way...

Hi. I would agree with Garry on getting the upgrades to an x11, the front ones anyway [x-brace, rockers, gearbox top etc.], you could even go the full haul and buy the steering parts too
The above upgrades arnt essential. The following upgrades may be worth definately buying though, these are; x11 spur gear [your car may already have this] and x11 wing mounts [stronger and les brittle than the x10 ones].

For an x10 I wouldn't suggest the lunsford turnbuckles for the upper wishbones as this would mean that you would also need to purchase new upper wisbones as the x11 ones are different lengths to x10 to accommodate the turnbuckles [which take up more room than the washers used on the x10 to change camber, if that made any sense? I have modified my x11 to take these washers as I find them easier to adjust, personal preference].

I think that's about it. Oh, I would also suggest x11 wheels [buying the bulk pack as it is a better deal, orange or black] as they are a newer material which is stronger and, again, less brittle. You may also need the spring tuning pack.

Just realised how much I have written so will shut up now

The X10 set-up guide is pretty good for translating what does what on this car compaerd to the average car and gives more insight on the effects of set-ups on changing curtain aspects of the car.
