Some chargers have separate leads to measure voltage through. It gives more accurate readings than the wires where the heavy amp load is going through.

They are seperate voltage sensing leads and I beleive and are calibrated to length so don't cut them short. Incidentally I did a little measuring of true voltage against what chargers thought the voltage was and the Orion advantage was the most accurate (some of the cheap Lipo ones were miles off ) which is why I now use 2 advantages as my Lipo chargers!

My robotronic charger says it's charging at 4.9amps, but my pro peak power supply says it's only supplying around 4.0amps. I've often wondered which one I should believe.

That's different Col, you're power supply is giving out [email protected] = 55W of power, your charger is using [email protected] = 41W, the difference being loses of heat, the screen power etc etc.

Ash - I use a V balance on both my chargers (1 for each) and only by rare exception don't balance charge. I have male connectors on the Advantage leads, females in the in end of the balance and then males on the other to go into the cells.

The only thing this does on mine is a slight error (safe though) meaning where as 8.40V on the charger used to be 8.40V at the cells, it's now 8.37V on the cells when the charger thinks it's 8.40V. This means I'm always OK at scrutineering, though technically they are probably only 99.9% charged

The worst one I saw was a cheap one with internal balancing that overcharged by 0.15V, now many may think this is OK and I don't really know but I do know this would fail scruitineering. This is why you still very much get what you pay for with chargers. I'm not saying the Orion is THE best in the worls but it's a decent one IMHO.
