how do both compare? I own a gt2.0 with a v3 motor, and am really struggling for space in the rango, I have noticed some really tidy wiring jobs with tekin esc and motors.
one thing i spotted the esc dont have heat syncs or fans? why is this? do they not get hot like normal speed controls? i dont get how they can stay cool. how do they compare then? I know the SP is smooth and really really easy to adjust but ive no experiance with tekin stuff so would like to hear other peoples views. |

I have a GT2.0 LPF in mine with a V3 motor and I've fitted it in my Durango nicely. I also have a Futaba 2.4 receiver which is pretty much the largest around.
I'll take a pic soon for you. I'm struggling to find somewhere to put the PT now |

The reason the Tekin's can run without fans is due to the amount of fets they have. This enable them to run far more efficiently, hence staying cooler

however i've seen a team driver with more holes than a sieve in the case trying to keep it cool

Was that recently, as with the last few updates, heat has not been an issue with the Tekin, not that I have noticed.

I used to run the Tekin in the Aero A1 and that was smaller than the Durango for radio space. One important thing to remember is that the solder posts are heatsinks so they shouldn't be facing a heatsource (like the motor). Make sure, especially in a car like the Durango, that the solder posts are away from the motor and try and get them in some airflow. Also, I've sometimes seen people insulate the posts with heatshrink... This is bad!
I've run Tekin for 3 or so years now and never have heat problems. I do run a fan in 4wd plugged into the receiver, but I could probably do without it. There are a lot of possible settings on the Tekin but it's really easy once you have a base setup. If anyone want my setup let me know. Most people who run Tekin always comment on how smooth they are, I believe the speed passion speedos are similar in that respect. What you get with the Tekin though is a much easier speedo to install into a confined space. They are also very flexible with regard settings and updates with the Hotwire. Kev Lee |

Having used both speedos, I can comment.
The tekin is a top spec speedo, and as such has a tiny footprint, has a fully programmable setup using a laptop and hotwire cable. It also does not require a fan. It is also very easy to quick setup, and the solder posts make cabling easy. The SP stuff is much cheaper, bigger, needs a fan, but is not in anyway a bad piece of kit. To compare in terms of feel on track, the SP feels smoother, but slightly less direct and has slightly weaker brakes. The tekin feels a little sharper, but both are very easy to drive, and feel very similiar on track to be honest. The only reason I really bought the SP stuff was because I had the tekin in my micro, due to the small footprint, and I wanted to run a 5.5 in my B44. The tekin I had was only the RS, not the pro.... I think the only real answer is, I would buy the tekin, if your finding it a squeeze. I also like the handheld programmer with the SP stuff, as it makes trackside changes easily, and I dont have to carry a laptop around with me!

Cheers, will order one asap.
I thought the RS could handle a 5.5 as it has a 5t limit? |

Yes in theory it should, but I never like running things reguarly at their maximum limit, its just asking for trouble

If you plan on ever using a 5.5 then i would go straight for the Pro, you should never run a speedo to its limits, thats when you risk damage.

Balls! I thought I would get away with it, assumed there would be a bit of a safety margin with them..
Will just play it safe and get a pro, dont want it going pop on me. |

Good choice
Not worth taking the risk, stick with the Pro and you will be fine.

Just to clarify: the majority of the Tekin RS's settings can be adjusted directly (i.e. no laptop required).
More 'specialist' adjustments such as custom throttle profiles, custom voltage cut-offs and firmware upgrades will require the Hot Wire system and a computer.
