Default oOple donations

I posted here so as not to interrupt the oOple trade fee's post.
Rich D posted a request to members to help pay for Jimmy's camera repair bill in the for sale section as a sticky. I only just saw this today so I hope people dont mind me posting this here.
As Jimmy is not sure about charging for the trade section I've donated £5 to his camera repair bill instead and am sure a lot more of you guys will chip in.

I think it's a great initiave, it's worth doing something in return for all the effort, time, costs and cool reviews the oOple crew has made! I just made a donation.

I hope the camera can be brought back to life - not in Frankenstein style (though those occasional zombie pictures are very nice ) - for a lot of successful review work and pictures in the future!

So what has actually broken on his camera? I knew the damage from Kampenhout was bad as the camera was completely dead from the moist conditions, but by what I read in the post from the 'sales' section it suggests the actual sensor has given up?

With that trapped nerve a small point and shoot compact may be a more humane option

I'm really humbled by this sort of stuff, thanks guys - I really don't know what to say.

This is the repair estimate from an approved Nikon repairer:

I've sent it for a second opinion direct to Nikon but I don't imagine it will get much better. This was a £3500 camera when I bought it and it's stood up to years of abuse to get some mad photos.

So they dont repair, they just replace !

Seems like they just want to swap everything apart from the casing

Reminds me....
I've just asked vicky whats going on. They were supposed to send some stuff out but we've still to recieve it. The stuff is all listed and insured for damage outside the home as far as I'm aware. But with the £350 excess and discount vanishing, we'd be looking at quite a lot of money to just go through insurance - unless they gave me a brand new camera it wouldn't be worth it really. I think vicky worked out it'd cost us at least £750 or something. I don't pay attention to such matters but we have never claimed on house insurance so have a decent no claims or whatever it's called.

Like cars you'll also have to pay extra premiums for the next five years. They get it all back one way or another.

Going forward I am going to get seperate insurance for my camera stuff - claiming on the house insurance is only worth it if it was all nicked.

............. I thought toy cars were expensive

Anyway send a small donation to "donate(at)oople.com" and encourage others to do the same. Esp. since Jimmy is a too big a tool for not accepting payment for decals and stuff while trackside.

Totally forgot to send some money over, so done it now.

Jimmy, maybe an update as to how much more you need may jog a few people into reaching into their pockets...

Come on people, you're idling on his server, get yer hands in your pockets and give the fella some wedge!

Wow, that list is very extensive I understand though that you might just as well check and replace everything on the camera that's possibly faulty or may cause problems in the future.

You'll have a fresh and new camera from that repair - and even with it's 4-5? years of age I think the D3 will beat any sub-1000GBP camera for your use!

By the way, is there no way to get it repaired in name of a company/business? If the laws are anything like in the Netherlands, business investments, purchases (and repairs?) can be declared of their VAT.

Seems like a good idea: I'm not sure if you can insure cameras once they have reached this age, but then again if it's all freshly repaired and checked I see no reason why they should reject insuring your camera and equipment.
