I’ve just built mine with the transmission kit, without doubt you have to pretend you’ve travelled back in time when building it, by that I mean with regards to manufacturing costs & assembly methods etc. It needs fettling & tinkering (ie, choosing to use a few alternative screws/using nyloc nuts here & there) to help make it all work nicely & reliably.
Now built, it feels very pretty tough tbh, though time will tell

Yeah true that’s how it was back in the day but 80s Tamiya look at the Avante Ok not great on the track but fit and finish of parts were so ahead of Schumacher. I mean flat head screws put me off buying one in 1989.

So change the screws if your use to Tamiya then don’t buy one. Tamiya’s are toys made of plastic Schumacher’s are racing cars designed to work end of

What a load of crap tamiyas all had self tappers and their plastics were rubbish, their Designs in the late eighties were and still are no where near what Schumacher were doing at the same time. As others have said if you don’t like it don’t buy it lol

To be fair to both sides tamiyas were easy and pleasant to build and excellent for novices
On the other hand schumacher were race bred and designed for racing so it was expected that they were built by people with some experience Horses for courses Tamiya for fun/newbies/bashing Schumacher for racing enthusiasts Both have merits and drawbacks remember mobile phones were still the size of a suitcase 👍😀😀 oh the old rose tinted glasses |

just doing a complete nut and bolt rebuild on mine at the moment after having alot of use. on inspection Im not too sure about the installation of the disc springs on the diff screw. I can see that the springs are sligtly concave. Its probably me being a bit thick but I dont think the manual is that clear about the orientation of the springs. The cat 2000 manual is alot clearer on this. Also (again its probably my age and poor eye sight) but the thrust race bearing - it says the smaller washer nearest the screw head but both washers appear exactly the same size. its probably just me being thick.

I think one should be slightly thinner than the other and install the disc springs like this )()()( they’ll keep the diff screw tight

Ah that would make sense. I'm going instal the transmission upgrade. Am I right in thinking it only uses 2 diff springs? I know the 2000 s use 4
