Default leaky ford focus

I know some of you are a bit mechanically minded in term of cars etc. so i've got a question.

I've suddenly got a puddle of water in the passenger footwell. But also when I turn the blowers on it sounds like I've got birds in the dash, but it only happens when it rains.

So obviously water is getting in when it rains, but where are the common places for water to get in?

It's a std problem Tel, ours used to do it sometimes. I think it's to do with the angle of the rain, where the moon is in the sky, what Ash's mum is making him for his tea and what's on TV that night.

It's the cover on something or other, and I think there is a fix for it, but I sold ours instead on a dry day

that happened on my grandads car it only happed when the car was on a angle like half on the kurb and half off or tilted on the driveway, i think my dad fixed it with silocone under the (golf ball) effect trim at the top of the bonnet thats where the water got in

hope this helps

tel could be

1/pollen filter housing (providing you not loosing coolant) there is a modified part, so you need cover and a new filtre,
its the black plastic trim under the passengers side wiper blade, was a TSB (Technical service bulliten) on it many moons ago (normally leaks into pass footwell near heater fan area)

can get you a filtre foc ;-) and cover at cost, ill post price wen im back at work, takes bout ten mins to fit
while cover is off check the bulkhead drain holes as they could be bunged
2/ if your loosing coolant and it smells sweet, then its heater core.

3/ ur misses waters have broken LOL

4/ your door drains are bunged up and the sloshing is water in the doors, (open door, check holes are clear right at bottom of doors

there is one more possibility, you been using ur AC much latley if you got it? if so the AC drain could be bunged up which will slosh in the heater box and then leak out the lowest vents

finally if all else fails, the customers expectations are greater that the product! (dam not allowed to use that phrase any more)
your ever friendly ford master tech!

Another common fault on fords is the bonding around the windscreen
This sometimes fails, and causes water to leak into the footwells.
Unfortunately, it usually needs the windscreen replacing, which if it is heated, is a costly item.
Have a look around the bottom and the edges of the screen, if there appears to be a white cloudiness within the glass, this is a sign of the bonding failing, amd possibly the reason for the leak.

..its that silver one that turns up at race meetings. lol

Seriously, some of these suggestions are making sense.

Mark, Air con not working, hasn't for a couple of years, BUT, the blower motor had to be replaced the other month and thinking about it, its only done the bird impressions since it was replaced.

regarding the birdy noises, it only does it when the car is parked facing in to the rain.

Ryan, this could be something too, as the car is parked half on the kerb all the time now, so is always at a tilt.

I'll check the stuff mark mentioned too and see if owt is blocked in the doors.

Cheers dudes and dudettes.

mine had the same problem a while back. took it into the dealer and he said it was a defective designed part on the AC/filter that was a common failure, and the replacement parts would solve the problem and not fail after.

Pollen filter is the common one. I am sure if you browse through the latest what car with the NEW fiesta on the front, their is a section about the fiesta with the footwell filling with water.

This is a common occurance on ALL fords. My bosses old mondeo did it, a friends fiesta as well!

thats normally after they have had a screen, the white you talk of is water getting between the lamintated part, age and not water leak

not a defective part, the original if fitted correctly is fine, the new one just fits better every time its removed, though it does have extra water channeling

96 fiesta was bulkhead seams not sealed, pollen filtres on them dont leak.

fiesta also suffers from doors filling with water as a drain hole was deleted in production on later level, back in there now

ford do design cars with water leaks, gives my techs somin to do, we have one lad who specializes in water leaks

just dont buy a CC!

The thing is I'd not realy had a problem with it until the garage changed the blower motor. Could they have misplaced a part or would it more likely be down the fact that they would have cleaned that area out?

could have, did they fit a new pollen filtre? if so defo cover, still worth checking heater box drain, fan is replaced inside car but the could have took cover off not knowing where it was.
noise could be simply a leaf or twig fallen in there

They probably just filled it with water Tel "for a laugh"

I know at vauxhall when they were building the police cars nuts and bolts would be left in doors and behind the dash so they would rattle around i seem to remember a tin of sardines being left in the dash on one car too. Lovely

on focus there is a black rubber blanking panel inbetween in pollon filter and the windscreen (in the passenger side bulk head ) if they have been playing with the blower or moved the pollon filter they may of moved or not fitted the blanking panel in correct which let's water straight in to the car, really bad design by ford, easy fix

Think I may have sorted it.
Just took the cover off....which it looks like the garage did too, as there were 'dig' marks where they'd tried to take the dummy screw cover off .
And it looks as though they've not located the cover properly where the two little round rubber holders are, so its just been sat on top of them leaving a gap where the cover should touch the windscreen.

The pollen filter was soaked through too so I assuming that this was where the problem was.

So I've taken the rubber holders out of the bodywork and located them in the cover first ten replace the cover properly.

We'll see next time it rains.
