Default Spektrum Receiver Aerial

I don't know if this question has been asked before but I've had a search though the forum and couldn't find anything (cue for countless links to be posted with the answer in the forum somewhere...............)

I've just been a numpty and snapped my Spektrum receiver (SR3000) aerial about 2" from the case.

Are these a special aerial wire that needs to be sent off somewhere for replacement or is it just standard wire and as such fixable by me?

Cheers in advance.

I've just had it apart Steve, no clip thing on mine - it's soldered direct to the circuit board.

I remember seeing a thread about being able to shorten the length to 3.6" (91.44 mm for those who have gone metric!) as this is to do with the wave length of 2.4 GHz (which is about 91.44 mm if my rusty HNC Electronics is correct!).

My stub is shorter than that so I'm going to use the snapped off bit, cut down to 3.6" as the new aerial.

I think I'll put this receiver in the micro though to be safe, never too far away from the rostrum then!

Your range will suffer a little but otherwise not much to go wrong. The little connector is on the DSM2 receivers and there you would have had a problem as the last 4cm of the aerial are the receiving end.

You could solder on a new wire without too much fuss if your receiver acts up.

Thanks all,

All sorted now. Soldered the snapped off bit onto the circuit board, cut it to 3.6" and all is working fine (chucked it in the micro and had a blat up and down the street, didn't lose signal at all and was well further away than any track I've been to - the micro was like a dot it was that far away!).

Glad I don't have the new fangled stuff with co-ax though!
