Default x6 - x6 4 gear?

Whats the difference? can you upgrade from the std car to the 4 gear? or do you need to buy the whole "conversion"?

From the original car which was 3 gear tranny (is this what you mean by standard?), you need the 4 gear tranny housing, motor plate and I think the 'new' rear bulkhead and carbon tower. What I mean is on the original car there was an all in one rear bulkhead and tower. This changed to a new bulkhead (still used on current car) which was beefier and meant the tower part was seperate and made of carbon fibre.

This was better as the bulkhead was stronger, the tower was stronger, had 'better' shock top mounting holes and if it broke you didn't have to take the whole of the back end off the car.

You did have to drill holes in the chassis for the motor plate T piece but that's very simple.

The squared car uses the same bulkhead (99% sure) but a newer revised tower which is only different to account for the geometry change of the squared wishbones which as not sided unlike the originals. The squared car ties in a lot of the improvements over the years to bring everything together in one higher quality package, but the lastest gen of the 4 gears would likely be as competetive on track. The biggest jump ever in performance came from going from the 3 gear to the 4 gear transmission!

Wow... very informative. I did mean the 3 gear car when I mentioned std. I am picking one up tonight. Racing on a tight budget you see ().
So basicly it is possible to buy the parts bit by bit to get it to the 4 gear car then.... ah, thats great news.... now then... anyone got any bits i need for sale lol???
Thanks for the info.. much appreciated.

I was slightly wrong above, you can upgade from 3 gear to 4 gear without rear bulkhead and carbon tower. Part# XKK015 is the 4 gear tranny housing, motor plate, extra idler gear, shaft, bearings and screws needed. I STRONGLY recomend you get this straight away as it just makes the car better in all respects. Not least the 3 gear box was not sealed at the bottom and crap gets into the box, where as the 4 gear box is all sealed up.

If you got to the DMS website, then go to X factory section you can see all the upgrade options available, unfortunatly I can't link direct as the website won't let me(???). The upgrade above is £25, however for £35 you can get it with beefier bulkhead and carbon tower, I'd defo do for that option!

Lol, no worries.

If it has the carbon rear tower, chances are it's the latest 08 version which is only superceeded by the X6 squared (2009) version.

For anyone else out there with a 3-gear X - 6, we made three different Upgrade Kits to change the 3-gear car to 4-Gear.

As usual, Dan is right on; the K015 included everything necessary to install the 4-Gear in the original 3-gear chassis with the original shock tower. You have to drill two holes in the chassis and a template is provided. You also have to Dremel/file a little bit on the left chassis rear rail to clear the spur gear.

The K016 had everything in the K015 + the new bulkhead and CF tower. This tower (#3311) was designed to work with the original arms.

We also made a K017 Upgrade Kit which contained everything in the K016 + a new pre-drilled chassis so no drilling/Dremmelling was required.

You may have noticed the past tense above -- while all the original parts are still available as individual parts, the Upgrade Kits are now obsolete. We have no more in stock and will make no more.

The good news is that a few Upgrade Kits still remain in the Dealer Family. Any X Factory dealer may have one or be able to get it from his distributor.

In some countries, the dealers buy direct from us in the U.S. Check first with your local hobby store, because they may still have one. If they don't have an Upgrade Kit, they cannot get one from us. In places like U.K. and Japan, where we have great importer/distributors, any dealer may be able to get an Upgrade Kit if the distributor still has one.

I remember D.M.S., our U.K. importer/distributor, got the last of the K017s a while ago, and I can't say if they have any of those or any other Upgrade Kit left.
