Default Spektrum users, what ESC's do you use?

Hi, im new to r/c and this forum has been like my electronic bible

Ive just bought my first kit and im desperate to put brushless in it, problem is ive read that theres issues with certain ecs's when used with spektrum radio gear (glitching, servos cutting out etc) and i want to avoid this, making my new hobby as easy as possible.........

Ive looked at a few different combos, and esc's some i have ended up dismissing and others i have no idea about, but fall within my budget.

these are....

castle creations sidewinder
lrp spx super reverse esc (cant find much user info on this one) i would use this with a 10.5 motor.
losi excorlin (lots of complaints on here about unreliability)
lrp eraser combo (seems very basic)

i really want to like the sidewinder, but have read that it has a weak BEC and this causes the glitches to the servo?

so any info on the above would be welcome and if there all cr@p then some recomendations would be great

I use exclusively, Tekin ESC's with my spektrum gear, and never missed a beat. If you let us know what your budget is, it would help with being able to recomend you something.

Ok my budget was around £150 but could stretch to £200 at a push, if it really is worth my while i could spend that amount one month for the esc and the next month get the motor.

Or you could look at the Tekin RS, not to pricey, and will run a 7.5 happily.

WOW they look small, not a fan or heatsink in sight!!! do they run cool enough?

im guessing the 10.5 motor i intend to run wont stress it at all?

no, shouldn't really bother it, it won't go full mod, 6.5, 5.5 as it will get too warm, but for what you want, the RS would be brill, but if you want to future proof, stretch to the Pro version.

Well I am so impressed with my Speed Passion speedos I can hardly put it into words (I'm not Speed Passion sponsored, I chose them as I think they are the best!!)

The GT2.0 LPF is an amazing speedo, £115 street price, comes with a programing unit as standard and easily ran a 5.5 in my 4wd car without issue! Add to that huge but simple adjustability and superb smooth characteristics how can you go wrong???

I now have GT2.0 LPF & V3.0 motor in the 2wd and a GT2.0Pro & V3.0 motor in the 4wd and at last I am totally happy with both.

I think value for money puts the Speed Passion stuff firmly at the top of the tree, if I was to run anything else it would be the Tekin but the price differential can not be ignored!

Same as me, Tekin RS Pro in my Cat SX and Losi XXCR (B4 for Petit) never had a problem.

Only problem I had was caused by myself. Reposition my micro Spektrum RX and the wire was running along the chassis. Re did it and now fine.

I did have problems with an LRP Sphere TC until I put a power cap in the reciever.

I run power caps all the time now from last week just as an extra precaution

If I wasn't running Tekin I'd go for Speed Passion.

Looking at changing my 7.5 X11 LRP motor to a V3 motor

A friend of mine also uses Speed Passion ESC with Spektrum Micro RX with no issues.

have used both tekin,lrp/nosram and speed passion and all of these seem to work fine with spectrum. out of practise i end to run a power cap to eliminate any potential probs. as for what to get, im biased as sponsered for speed passion but was for all of the above. speed passion and tekin are far smoother to drive than the lrp so more driver friendly. sp and tekin feel almost the same but the speed passion runs a lot cooler. if space is an issue then the tekin is smaller. like said by roger, the speed passion 2.0 lpf is nice and cheap and does a very good job so look in that direction, there are plenty of uk stockists (some of which are on oople) so check with them for prices

I've run Novak GTB (non spektrum), Speed Passion & Losi Excelorin, all been fine in a variety of cars and with SR3000 & 30001 spektrum receivers and with and without power caps.

I did occasionally get a little glitch in one car with the spektrum micro receiver but that went away when I added a power cap
