Default Radio gear

I'm looking to get back into racing after a long break and need some radio gear. There seem to be all sorts of brands that I haven't heard of so I could do with a bit of advice. I'm after sticks and like the idea of 2.4 ghz set, can someone recomend me a set a sensible price? Is the Core radio gear any good?
I could also do with a steering servo to go in a cat sx, I assume a metal geared one is a good idea seeing as it's got no servo saver.

i use the Core radio and it has been fine for me, really can't knock it for the price. Has all the major functions you could need and is nice and easy to use.

as for servos, a metal geared is a must. KO are very good but a bit pricey new, plenty of second hand bargains around though. Savox are also very good for the money. Depends on your budget really

This.

I just got back in after 4 years out, and went for a Spektrum DX3R. Well impressed, compared to the Futaba 3PK I used to have.

Default 2.4ghz

I've recently picked up the Etronix Pulse stick setup and cannot complain, got all the functions of the big name sets, but at a fraction of the cost.
No problems with binding or interference, sticks a very smooth and the whols set is of a good weight.
not going to sing its praises to much as only had and used it since the EOS finals.
but as the saying goes You get what you pay for.

Budget, well i didn't really want to pay more than £100 for the transmitter/receiver, as long as there's no range or interference problems i'll be quite happy. I'll have a look at the Core and Etronix sets, I notice they both look the same is that the case?
For the servo i haven't really got a budget in mind but I'd like to buy something up to the job to start with rather than end up buying something better a few months down the line. I do remember the KO FET servos being the thing to have when i used to race but thats 14 years ago now.

i still have a KO servo from about 1992 and it is still up to the task! used it in 2wd and then in my micro last year! They aren;t cheap, but they are good.

As i said the savox 1258 is pretty much the pick of the current stuff, quick, torquey and just over £50 new.
