Hope this is ok to post here. I need some advice about my mobile phone. This is the 2nd phone of this type i have had since starting my contract about 4 months ago. Its through Orange and they have been very unhelpfull with me so far. Today i rang again to complain about the phone dropping out of service loads and sometimes not having a signal at all when my apprentice has got full signal. I have deleted all pics and videoe etc off the phone but am wondering if i have too many numbers on it now? The phone is also getting very slow, as if the software is broken? Has anybody esle had these problems. To be honest, i hate the phone but changed to this one because my Nokia N73 had loads of faults on it now this one seems to be going the same way.

my wife has one, she got it unlocked to any network although she hasnt really had any problems with signal drop but it wouldnt work with a O2 sim for some reason it just drained the battery but the biggest fault with the k800i is the joystick sticking

The joystick has stuck before and again this time. The operator from Orange, that was very helpful this time said that she shouldnt tell me but if you complain about the same fault 3 times then they have to change the phone. Im going to get my new 1 then complain again when it breaks because it will. Im sick of it.

When the joystick gets sticky, put a small drop of WD40 in it - works a treat for months!
My 800 is an old vodaphone unlocked to take Teso mobile and it's faultless with over 300 numbers in it and a 2GB memory stick with nearly 600 photo's and 100 tunes.

i've also had a K800i for a long time, since November 2006 (on an 18month contract).
The phone has only broken once in the year and 5 months i've had it. At one point, it was very slow, but that seemed to be because i had so many texts on the handset. Try taking the battery out while the phone is switched on, i was told to do this every 3months or so by T-Mobile. |

Run the live update, sorted all kinds of niggles on my 810i inc slow running. I love this phone now though i have it dropping out of signal sometimes and needs a reset.

Cheers for the link. Im sick of using it and have been delivered a new 1 but i think that i will continue using my Nokia N73 for now until that starts freaking out again. Years ago when phones were phones, not mini computers, people never had bother with them did they? Fair enough they were the size of a house brick but you could drop them and they would still work and if you lost it ,it would get returned because it looked crap!

ive had 2! the first one died (slow running buttons sticking ect) got it repaired by t mobile free of charge then about 4 months after that it died litterally! turned out the mobo had fried so got a brand new one free of charge three months before the end of my contract! this seemed very unlucky seeing as they were sait to be soo reliable lol. now got a w910i (reviews have said the thing dont work, turns its self off when it feels like it ect) but mine has been great! dont know where im going with this but though id get my bit in lol

Spent years selling the damn things and dealing with this stuff on a daily basis.
All network branded handsets from any manufacturer 'hang' more than any other, orange and t mobile are the worst as they install there own software over the top of the manufacturers firmware which stops certain functions working on the handset. Unlocking these phones is a waste of time, the unlock does not reformat the phone so the software problems remain. To sort this problem you need to feflash the hand set(reinstall the firm ware) although what dan has suggested will work as long as you have not unlocked the handset. To stop all 3rd generation ericson handsets from losing single you need to do the following press ' menu' press 'settings' select 'connectivity' scroll down to and select 'mobile networks scroll down and select 'gsm/3g networks' scroll down and select 'gsm only' the handset will lose signal for about 2 minutes and then the problem is gone away. this is because the phone works in dualk syatem mode gsm/3g and is set by sony ericcson to seek 3g service first even though this has a lower signal strength in the uk. this loses and gains signal so rapidly that on many handsets they will crash and as a minimum will lose signal. the n73, n95 etc. are worse for this, and the same process can be done on those handsets as well but not if they have a vodafone label. as a side note these handsets were referred to as boomerangs due to the 50% faulty return rate sorry for spelling off to work in a hurry |

like i say the coverage is very dependant on the quality of 3g signal in your area.
if you are using a nokia n series, go into network settings and switch from dual mode to gsm only and this will help loads if you are using a samsung very similar process, setting (bottom left icon) network and band, select gsm 900 if o2 or vodafone, select gsm 1800 if other network if using motorola, chuck it out of a window and by a decent phone...... |

i would go through o2 on a sim only contract and keep using your old phone, you save loads on the line rental and to be fair it gives you an idea just how much you get overcharged just so you can get 'free' handset. the phone industry is a classic example of how free isn't free.
To be honest i have an industry special tarif which you wouldn't believe the price of. |
