I agree with you Welsh.. I think the only reason why someone would buy that is for the Bling. I bought mine about 20 years ago when they were easy to find. GPM alloy hop ups were the most common hop up. I think it was bruckner hobbies. Do you have one with any GPM Hop ups? Just Curious.

I will ask Keith. Ive had the first batch and given him the go ahead on it. Undertray is the one thing we havent got but he will be working with me on that eventually.
trd179v - iso's picture is of a yokomo with a tub chassis so the Tomcat shell wouldnt fit it. GPM parts over here are non existant for the lazer. Still ebay is always worth looking.
Iso i prefer the pink dish ones. Picture will be posted later of the hubs. The dragon paint scheme works with red or pink wheels. Heck Masami won with pink wheels.

mmmm well would you happen to know who made the one off design wheels for the B2 / B3 that resembled the Durango DEX410 rear wheels back in the 90's? I had a couple of sets of those when I was racing my B2 and were superb looking wheels.
Still if you cant find those I would be up for a couple of left (9370) and a couple of right (9375) out drives for the B2 / B3. Does that sound good?

Abot the TT stuff i´ll guess the fit since they use the imperial suff still iin bearings and the same clutch as in my RC10 and T and that means the the slipper disc will fit kyosho lazer:D
Let me know more partnumbers of what you want for the B2/3 so i can check, I have a source but only numbers will do.

Im so asleep, ok im guessing that these are thunder tiger or Protoform but have had no luck in finding them. However I have managed to get my hands on several sets of wheels, bodyshells, wishbones, rear shock towers, a couple of gearboxes, 3 and 1.5 degree wishbone mounts, rear hubs, pivot pins, steering, front block, alloy chassis plates front and rear, A braces and diff gears and now all I really need are the out drives - part numbers AS9375 and AS9370.
Let me know if your still up for the swop mate.
Im a bit gutted that I am unbale to run my ZXS at the Petit though as the front gear box parts havent been made yet for me to run it so will have to use my 511 instead. Im a bit gutted but what the hell its just fun. Also diffs for the ZXR, does anyone else use another type of diff or are they all standard? Im not so happy with the design of the ZXR ball diff and used another in the 90's, quite possibly from the Pure 10 but am not sure.

I remember switching to those white pulleys back in the day because they had more balls and were a heck of a lot smoother. I'm thinking MMS but they might have been Wasp or RW. I thought the old-school kyosho diffs were a bit gritty but black grease helped a lot.
Welshy40
04-11-2010, 09:16 PM
I have a knack for breaking the unbreakable and the only diffs that worked well were kyosho. But cant remember what model they were from and need to investigate further. The diff design had faults on the zxr but the zxs proto diffs ive got are as smooth as the rc10 b2 that i use and unhappy that these diffs didnt get made. As my protos are worn out im now in need of diffs that dont slip but are smooth. Tough challenge eh?
adam lancia
05-11-2010, 02:19 PM
Thoare are Pure Ten diffs you're thinking of. They are similar in construction to the Stealth diffs with a proper coil spring and separate nut on the opposite side of the thrust bearing assembly. The thrust balls are still a little too small which makes the diff's grittier than they should/could be but they are leaps and bounds better than the original Lazer/Optima/Ultima ball diffs.

05-11-2010, 04:14 PM
The pureten type is soo much better as adam says.
I bought the last white diff pulleys from RW and i can say that they are very nice..super nice infact and use more balls then standard and of cource machined he could make some more but then minimum order was 20 or something like that. I also have some white diffs from integy if i remember correctly they are super smooth and non slipping but have delrin outdrives that make them weaker then steel dito still having more balls makes smoother.
mvh Isobarik
Welsh still up for the trade just have to find them first waiting for reply from the supplier.

Iso, mate there yours so no rush.
Outdrives I had in the early 90's must be those from the Pure ten so thats what I will have to get to replace my protos, then when I have cash I will get them made from scratch as they are as smooth as a B2 diff. I will update when I have found and built.

Been a while since I posted here, winter came around and hockey came along. I still have Iso's shirt that I have to send him but thats another story.
I started to build a lazer zxr racer just because I had the extra parts. I race schumachers and associated nowadays and forgot how nice that lazer was. The diff is silky smooth, fit perfectly together like nothing else.
I am buiulding a new meets old racer. I bought welshey's design 2 from fiberlyte, nice stuff!. I'm going t install suspention parts available today.. for breakage reasons. But I'm sticking witht the stock drive system because I think its the best there ever was. I'm looking for some front gearboxes, contacted DYNA last week and still haven't heard anything yet. Does he still do the gearboxes? or does anyone have any to spare.

Great but ive already designed a lipo pack tray for the zxs and should fit the zxr. The one that would suit it are the first design where there were two separate trays just in case the width of the chassis was a narrower design.

Welsh the lazer alpha uses an hex axle and the pulley slides on to that hex axle. The pulley for the alpha is jus a single unit for front and back drive so no twin pulleys and no oneway on layshaft and no slipper.

Well im confused as why would kyosho make a oneway diff when they supplied a one way in the kit as standard. I dont think this is for the zx or zxr.
Also the picture is of the rear gear box and not the front and were talking about the diff not the layshaft pulleys.

Well, there is a difference between a central one way with a front differential, and a front one way which will go solid when you turn full throttle !!
I confirm this is perfectly suitable for a Lazer ZX and also for other various Kyosho cars from this period as you mentioned.:)

Hello to you all,
I write this in the hope that you might be able to help me out.
I have recently bought a Lazer zx as a project but when it arrived I was sad to see it has broken front diff housing(LA32):thumbdown:I have been searching what seems like the entire web for this part, also tried my local model shops but no luck:confused:.
I hope you dont mind but I found your Lazer forum, read a few of your threads and you seem to be the guys with the knowledge,so I thought I'd sign up and ask you where I could find one and what price it would be?
Kind Regards

I was a very nice shoot, I'm not watching much hockey these days. I'm still working constuction and its getting cold, so I'm real tired at the end of the day and keeping my eyes open is tough.
Plus, Hockey is a little to dirty for my taste these days. Cheap shots have become to much the norm these days, you never saw that back in the 80's. Back then, if a player wanted to make a statement, he turned you around dropped the gloves and gave you a beating. Now its to much about destoying a persons career by disabling him.

Just search omark on the tube and you will hit plenty.
Or just take a look at this.

he played for Luleå before he went to russia and NHL
Lueå is where i live and yes he was good here also and this year we have been really good and we are on second place after we have been in first almost entire season.
Basicly thats why forsberg took an timeout from hockey due to his body was really beaten after all those sticks slashing behind the knees thats just awfull.

its more like the ball links are touching the aluminium steering plate, same thing one the nuckles.
By the way, I'm too cheap to buy a camera, the pics were taken on a i-pod:p
Welshy40
10-01-2011, 02:57 PM
I know the problem and the simplest solution is put associated ball joints all over.
But I also would recommend for now to raise the steering plate by a mm or 2 that is to stop bumpsteer and should resolve it from hitting the plate.

Welshy is right ;) .
I don't have the problem because I'm running the Zx-s special unicrank with a long 3mm associated ball stud and a small 3mm washer (grabbed from the LA27/LA59 mould).

I got a team bluegroove Zx-r bodyshell and in my opinion the lexan is really thin and the details are quite poor compared to an original kyosho Zx-r one.
For sure it is not suitable for a runner, for a shelfer it's not the best body but it is better than no body at all :D.

Ive got the first few here and have given him the go ahead so I would advise calling him. Mention James advised you about it and he will know. Be warned tho that these shells never had the ZXR lines for the gear cover as it was used for various models including the tamiya proto so its a bit of time lining up to get right but worth it in the end.

Iso,
if you know someone who has a used on then id be up for buying it. The main item being the top deck rear mount as this will dissapate the heat from my X12 5.5, also im puzzled. The zx slipper system, does it work when you grease it as ive not greased and its just slipping big time.
FYI ive given kamtec a gear cover and ZXR undertray so soon almost everything will be available. Im calling Keith to see if they can update the website with tomcat shell. I cant wait to get it painted.

No the actual plate has fins on it so is basicallY twice as thick as the standard. The fins you have i cant use due to where my receiver and aerial fits. I use an lrp 5.5 X12 and the heat is stupid so the best way to take the heat away is having alloy an block as well so it goes across the chassis to the L plate on the other side. That should save me a blown motor.
Ive already sent a clear gearcover so i doubt he will be able to do.

You could always tint a clear one with some paint? I'd prefer a clear one tbh, not factory original but easier to work with.

for gearcovers and the windows of the body's. It worked great do.

You are watching the problem in the wrong direction ..... the Lrp X12 motors are famous for the high temp problem.
The solution is easy, keep your lazer with the plastic support and change your motor ;).
Otherwise you will be ending in buying the full Lazer alloy chassis :woot: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130336497397 ...

You could always tint a clear one with some paint? I'd prefer a clear one tbh, not factory original but easier to work with.
Actually the later ones was clear and not tinted.

Nope, I actually had this when I ran corally in my ZXR and the only way to get the motor to stop overheating and burning out the brushes was to use the alloy mount. The plastic doesnt do anything and a fan is not easy to fit and keep in the same place, and it doesnt do much to reduce the heat. I found using the metal heatsink, metal mount and metal L plate really did reduce the heat, and the X12 works fine for me. the alloy chassis, I could bend that in one event so isnt worth buying.

Funnier, Ok I have the rarest item, a kick up plate for the ZXS, second most rarest a new set of yokomo wheel adaptors, third rarest a sticker sheet for the ZX-S and then fourth rarest front belt and last but not least a rear belt.
UM560.02? I have ideas but please update us all. Am I guessing these will be for the YZ10 wheel hubs, so no uj parts sticking out, so a possible mod on the hub itself? This is now very interesting. You and me had better have words, your starting to get the creative bug like me.
For all of you out there this is what he is on about. Look at the link.

Custom custom special special, I have that and more on the one I currently run, but this idea is what I have been thinking of for a while on my race buggy as I have a few issues due to the front width This may sort it out. They look great (ZXS buggies):p

Yeah welsh its for the suzuki hubs to have them mounted. I have like 40 sets of yokomo rims
First i was thinking of having the existing parts modified but then when i saw these i just have to order them ,and if they are to long it can be just cut down. from where the bearing rests to the edge 27 mm
Since the dollar is so low i think i will order them from the states.

Thanks James for the manuals  .
By the way, yesterday I had my second race with the Lazer; I still have to improve the setup a little but the car was a lot better that the first race.
My setup, based on associated shocks, was:
Front:
- spring blue
- oil 50 wt
- piston no. 3
Rear
- spring silver
- oil 40 wt
- piston no. 3
Schumacher yellow mini pin all around, with the external row of pin cutted in the front tires.
Next time I will try the front silver springs and maybe the piston no. 2 ;) .
The track is in astrotuf, you can see a small video here:

Another question, which kind of grease did you put inside the gear diffs ?

I used Vaseline but totally filled the diff with this grease and worked really well for me in the gear diffs.
Have you tried number 1 pistons or is it too soft? What holes are the tie rods on the front and rear shock towers and hubs?
Well done with the B2. My set up at the moment is size one pistons all round, green springs all round, 35 front with 2mm pack and 45 rear no pack. Ive got four lipo rude tony brass trays at the very front, with a 5g weight at the back holding them in place, a futaba 9551 small servo with 3x 20g weights along the back of the servo and one 20g weight in the little chassis section on either side of the servo. Ive also got a trinity blue alloy front block which is heavier than standard and aides the handling. I use lipo saddles in forward position. B3 front wishbones. Still needs some work but feels more stable than last setting.

Yes, piston 1 was too soft and the chassis hit hardly the ground after each jump (to be honest the major problem was only at the front, maybe with a different oil .....).
The tie rods are configured like these pictures:
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/6232/p1010934r.jpg
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/5443/p1010933.jpg
For the B2 I was using brown springs at the front with 35 oil and piston 2, but with stagger tires.
At the rear green springs with 30 oil and piston 1.
60 grams of lead at the front, 40 at the top of the servo and 20 in the little chassis section, but I think I will put some extra weight as the car is still prone to wheely under heavy acceleration.
Battery in forward position too.
B3 front wishbones too, all original B2 ones are gone :D !!

Mmm well ive those brass plates on the battery tray and thats 200g, but i utilise the empty areas next to the servo which may sort it.
Lazer set up well im going to post pics today on the tie rods area as this may be worth trying. But i always set the rear 10 to 15 lighter than the front but with one spring strength lighter on the rear than the front for grass and two heavier on the front than the rear (same for rear on grass as well). Front ujs just under level and rear ujs slightly more. Also may be worth while buying B4 servo posts with the thin extenders so you can use them to more centralise your servo, so the horn almost touches the belt.

Ema,
Pics are not very good so apologies. I hope this helps. These pictures are without cells and set for carpet. With cells in the chassis will be very low and does work well. I am using the below set up as a starter to modify the set up with Lipos. This set up got me in the top ten in the indoors UK champs with NIMH cells. Fibre-lyte are making me something to hold the Lipo's in and I am using the rudebitz TRF 511 brass lipo plates that go in the centre of the car between the cells. This should aid handling a bit. Just waiting for the spur gears to be made for me to test it properly.
Front oil: 60 weight
Front Shocks: Traxxas TRX1
Front piston: 2 Holes
Shock Shaft: Standard
Front Spring: Schumacher Grey
Rear oil: 40 Weight
Rear Shocks: Traxxas TRX1
Rear Piston: 3 Holes
Shock Shaft: Standard
Rear Spring: Schumacher Yellow
1 to 2 mm pack on these shocks
No roll bar on carpet. Preferred tyres Schumacher yellow mini pins.
P.S this is the original car.
Hope this is of use.

Are the equalizers any better than the original golds??
Welshy40
10-02-2011, 09:55 PM
Bormac, all depends on how you build them. I found using MIP seals on the gold shocks (original option house) and making the plastic washer holes a fraction bigger gave more freedom and made the shocks very close to TRX1 shocks. I also used three seals in each shock before I was given a set of TRX1 shocks and by not using the washers boy were they good. Only problem was that one crash you bent the shaft, so crashing was not an option.
The equalisers were good, dont get me wrong but the reason why I didnt use was you have to maintain more unlike the single body option house original shocks. Heck, my original buggy was taken out of storage after 8 years and the TRX1 shocks (same design as the option house originals) haven't leaked a drop and still have pack.

What's the likelihood of building up a ZX-S from scratch now days? I'll admit this car has for a long time fascinated me (as I'm sure it does others) but with the chassis plate sections available from a certain source I'm left wondering if its possible go build something for the race track?

Ok well I have had all flat bits copied by Fibrelyte, so chassis, shock towers, steering plate and rear gearbox parts are easily obtainable.
Wheels, well Annsman wheels for the Mad rat fit directly but if you want an original then ZXR wheels can be found.
ZX-5 do the correct size UJs, just need to get the correct length.
Only items that are ultra rare are the gearboxes for the front and they are brittle as an ice stick, so may be a problem in using - mine are breaking and thats the stronger version that I designed so a very weak point and you cant jump it with them on. Also the kick up plate bends when jumping front first so replacements will be needed.
Also the rear shock tower mount is also as brittle so one roll over at speed and thats game over, also I am unable to locate any of them and is the rarest of rare. I had an alloy one made, expensive.
The rest is bullet proof, rear belt and front which are just as rare will last for years before replacing. Diffs from a ZXR can be used fromt and rear but one way is also ultra rare and doubt one can be found easily. Finding the poles for the gearbox will be hard too. After you spent all the cash it would actually be cheaper to buy mine.
If you want a proper ready made buggy that is a prototype I have one brand new, unused, unpainted, and still with the prototype new unsued items on for £750.

Those hubs are teamline ballraced hubs, not kyosho and super rare but i would advise sending a PM to HKP as he may know someone who may have a few.
